Windsurfing in still know as one of Hawaii's most popular extreme sports. Pro's sail into giant 40 ft sets on the outer reefs of the North Shore that even tow in surfers won't attempt to ride. Kailua is a much friendlier play ground where beginners go out for the first time within the protective reef that encompasses Kailua Bay. But don't let the tranquility fool you advanced sailors, just tack out a little further for some wave-action. Kailua is where the intro students learn shoulder to shoulder with an up-and-coming crop of free-style riders.
